New passport office begins functioning

The new Regional Passport Office (RPO) here has been made operational for people from today onwards as the shifting of the office has been completed.

Divulging details, Regional Passport Officer (RPO) Harmanbir Singh Gill said the office was now functional in the New Passport Office Building in Pocket-I, opposite the local bus stand.

He said the building was located near the newly constructed GST Bhawan and added that all services would be provided by the department to people from the building.

Gill said the shifting of the records had been done and all official works would be carried out from the new office. Reiterating the firm commitment of his office for better service of people, Gill said for the details related to passport services, residents were request to use the same website or the national call centre (toll free No. 1800-258-1800) and can even contact email id — rpojalandhar@mea.gov.in or phone numbers 0181-2242114 or 0181-2242115.

Meanwhile, there are three Passport Sewa Kendras operational in the city, which are working under the Regional Passport Office, that receive 2,200-2,400 applications for miscellaneous services from the region daily, the RPO said.

The Regional Passport Office caters to needs of Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Kapurthala, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Moga and Batala districts. It had received 4.64 lakh applications in 2017 of which 4.59 lakh passport and miscellaneous services were rendered to people. This year, it has set a target of providing services to over 5 lakh persons, the RPO said.
