Gangster wanted in double murder case held

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police today arrested a dreaded gangster wanted in a double-murder case here since 2014 from the Janak Nagar locality of the city.

The police said the accused was a member of the notorious Bhana gang of the city and had been on the run ever since the shootout had taken place near a gym around Raja Garden locality of the city on February 26 in 2014. He said in this shooting, two youths, Simran and Deepansh, were killed, while their friend Randeep Singh was severely injured.

Acting on the complaint of Deepansh’s father, the police had booked Balvir Singh Cheema, Dalveer Singh, alias Dalveera, Sukhdev Singh, alias Mintu, Daljeet Singh, alias Bhana, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, Gurbaz Singh, alias Lally, alias Baba, Kudeep Singh, alias Sony, Yodhveer Singh, Ranbeer Singh Sandhu and Satish Gill, alias Vicky Gill.

However, the police said that another accused Gurcharan Singh, alias Sweety, who was also booked in the case, was still on the run. He said Sweety was a close friend of Bhana and had played a key role in bringing the dreaded gangster to the site of the crime and had then fled from city towards Hoshiapur in his Swift car after the shootout.

Rajinder Singh said Sweety had also kept Bhana in his house before the shootout and was wanted by the police in FIR No. 40 registered on February 26, 2014, under Sections 302, 307, 324, 148, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.

Acting on a tip-off, a police party, led by Dr Ravjot Singh, in charge, Police Division No. 5 Jalandhar and in charge of the Basti Bawa Khel police station Naresh Kumar arrested the accused from the Janak Nagar locality yesterday.
