NGO installs sanitary pads vending machine

Government Senior Secondary School situated at Ladhana Jhikka village in Banga subdivision of Nawanshahr district has become a menstrual-friendly school. 

The NGO's Khawayeesh Sewa Society, Takarala and Rotary Club, Grande Prairie, Canada in collaboration with the P&G Whisper School Programme have installed sanitary pads vending machine and incinerator at a cost of Rs 35,000 at the school.

The expenditure was equally shared by Dr Daljit Saini and Rotary Club, Grande Prairie, Canada. Principal Rajneesh Kumar said as many as 128 girl students of the school were also sensitised about the importance of proper hygiene during periods. 

Ayushi Bagga, counselor from P&G Whisper School Programme, while interacting with the girl students said there were lots of misconceptions about the natural process of periods,” said Ayushi.

While expressing his gratitude towards the NGOs, the Principal, Rajneesh Kumar , said that the menstrual friendly school would ultimately prove a boon for promoting girl education as well as women empowerment.  — TNS
