NIT to showcase launch of rocket prototypes today

The Innovation Club, Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, is organising a two-day mega event, 'Innovesta '19, a national-level symposium, and 'Rockesta ‘19' that started today. The event witnessed a participation of around 600 students from various institutes of repute.
The event was inaugurated by Prof LK Awasthi, Director, NITJ, and Dr Pamita Awasthi, guest of honour, Hamirpur NIT.
Prof Awasthi said: “Innovation flourishes when you challenge the situation and have inquisitiveness by asking questions. My foremost objective is to make my students aware by taking initiatives such as 'Rockesta', 'Innovesta' and 'Hackathon'. We should strive for excellence to contribute to ideas of our worthy Prime Minister Narendra Modi and MHRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyalji.”
Dr Pamita Awasthi said: “We should sensitise our students towards quandaries of our society by employing innovative ideas and techniques.”
She expressed happiness over the initiative taken by the team, Innovation Club. Prof Awasthi also shared details of 21 initiatives that had been registered under the Technology Business Incubation Centre, NITJ, and moreover 12 projects related to space technology had already been incubated by the Space Technology Incubation Centre of the institute in collaboration with scientists of the Defence Research laboratory of the ISRO in sync with start-up and standup policy of the Centre.
Dr LP Singh, faculty coordinator, Innovation Club, said: “Innovesta’19 primarily focus on crucial concerns of our society and environment such as solid waste management, waste to wealth, rainwater harvesting, water conservation, air pollution, recycling of plastics. 'Rockesta' is all about technical innovation in which Raghav Sharma, founder of Xovian, will teach the participants to make a rocket and there will be a rocket launch tomorrow.
He said: “The NITJ has already taken initiatives to rescue our environment from pollution such as biogas plant in hostels and we have started steam cooking system that will save LPG worth Rs 1.5 lakh. Nearly 25 start-ups have already been incubated by the incubation cell of the NITJ. The best project of 'Innovesta’19' will be selected by the NITJ incubation centre."
Dr RK Garg, president, Institute Innovation Council, NITJ, Dr Rohit Mehra, Associate Dean Research, Dr T Srinivasa, Raghav Sharma, Hari Shanker, Founder Xovian aerospace, Dr Samayveer, Dr Ranchan Chauhan and Dr Shyamkiran Kaur were among those others present. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Shyamkiran Kaur.
After the inaugural ceremony, under 'Rockesta ’19', there was a workshop by Raghav Sharma, an alumus of NITJ, and Hari Shankar, Founders, Xovian Aerospace. The team discussed the basics of aerospace and made the working rocket model. The workshop has seen a huge participation of around 500 students The students were enthusiastic and keen on learning different aspects of aerospace. All queries related to aerospace were answered in the session.
The next day will be the rocket-launch ceremony wherein an actual rocket launch will be done. Judges from the Xovian Aerospace team will judge the rocket-launch competition and the best among them will be rewarded with cash prizes worth Rs15K.
Along with Rockesta, Innovesta '19, a national-level symposium, was conducted in which 25 teams participated from colleges in and around the state. The event started today where the students displayed their innovative ideas through projects. The mega events motivated the young minds to express their ideas and will give them a hope and chance for a successful start-up.
