No to heavy vehicles on nagar kirtan route

The international nagar kirtan heading to Sultanpur Lodhi from Nankana Sahib to mark the 550th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev will be passing through the city tomorrow. In view of the nagar kirtan, a detailed route map and instructions of diverted routes have been released by the Jalandhar police. The police have prohibited plying of buses/heavy vehicles on routes through which the nagar kirtan will pass.

The traffic police have provided alternate routes for citizens to travel tomorrow and sought that commuters should not use the route through which the nagar kirtan would pass. The traffic police also released a helpline numbers 0181-2227296 and 1073 for the commuters.

Starting from Gurdwara Singh Sabha, Industrial Area, Jalandhar, the nagar kirtan will travel through Sodal Chowk Gurdwara at Preet Nagar, Doaba Chowk, Kishanpura Chowk, Adda Hoshiarpur, Adda Tanda Chowk, Balmiki Gate, Patel Chowk, Basti Adda Chowk, Jyoti Chowk, Nakodar Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk, Guru Amar Dass Chowk, Gurdwara Singh Sabha Model Town, Model Town Market, Chowk Dairyan, Gurdwara Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Prithvi Planet, Guru Ravidass Chowk, Basti Sheikh Adda, Babrik Chowk, Evening College, Chowk Peer Jhandian, Gurdwara Adarsh Nagar, Mithu Basti, Gurdwara Guru Arjan Dev ji, Basti Bawa Khel Drain and the Wariana turn from where it will head to Kapurthala.

From 7 am till the time the nagar kirtan will be present in the city, all buses and heavy vehicles coming from Kapurthala via Basti Bawa Khel to the city will be routed via Karatrpur-PAP route. During this time, passing of all buses and heavy vehicles from Basti Bawa Khel-Kapurthala Chowk to Jalandhar city will be prohibited.

Buses and heavy vehicles coming from the local bus stand to Nakodar will be routed via Samra Chowk, traffic light—Urban Estate Phase II to 66 ft Road Paratappura–Nakodar Road. During this time, buses and heavy vehicles to Chunmun Chowk – Guru Amar Dass Chowk–T point Khalsa School Nakodar Road–Ravidas Chowk–Wadala Chowk route will not be allowed at the bus stand.

The route on which traffic have been diverted (i.e. will not be allowed to ply during the nagar kirtan on Monday) includes Mini Sabzi Mandi (Kali Mata Temple) Chandan Nagar Fatak, Aangooran Vali Bel, Kishanpura Chowk, near DD Khosla office, Ikaheri Puli, Gopal Nagar Dass Nagar, Workshop Chowk, Harnamdasspura, Patel Chowk, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Shakti Nagar turn, Plaza Chowk, Football Chowk, T-point Link Road, Chunmun Chowk, Geeta Mandir Chowk T-point, Modern Hospital, Parkash Bakery, Manbro Chowk, Ravidass Chowk, Krishan Morai Temple, Babrik Chowk, Bhaiya Mandi, Regent Park, Y-point 120 Feet Road and Kapurthala Chowk.

Heavy police force has also been deployed across chowks and throughfares in the city in view of the procession.

DCP (traffic) Naresh Dogra said: “Proper arrangements have been made for the nagar kirtan and traffic has been diverted for the convenience of people. They are urged to keep in mind the route of the nagar kirtan while travelling tomorrow. They are requested to use link roads to avoid any inconvenience.
