Non-teaching employees of local colleges staged a dharna and raised slogans against Principal Sucharita Sharma of Apeejay College of Fine Arts in front of her college here today.

Madan Lal Khullar, state president, Private College Non Teaching Employees Union, Punjab, alleged the behaviour of the principal towards non-teaching employees of the college was not appreciable. He alleged that she had not been paying heed to demands of non-teaching employees since last few months. Nathu Ram of DAV College said if she did not change her behaviour, non-teaching employees of all colleges in Jalandhar district would stage a dharna in front of the Appejay College of Fine Arts on November 28.

The main demands of the non-teaching employees of Apeejay College of Fine Arts are - withdrawal of suspension order against Sudarshan Marwaha Nagma/Tabla player, shifting services of Balbir Kaur from peon to librarian or lab attendant and Jai Ram from peon to driver, provision of arrears to non-teaching employees, allowing parking of vehicles on the campus to non-teaching employees.

Principal Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Sucharita Sharma had termed the strike based false allegations. She said the employee demanding a reinstament had created a ruckus outside the college and said the action had been initiated primarily due to uncalled for indiscipline being by an employee.

PCNTEU joint secretary Lakhwinder Singh, chief advisor Kulwant Singh, co-convener DAV CCC, Punjab, Ravi Kumar, Ram Chander, secretary DAV College unit, Raman Behl, president of HMV, Vijay Kumar of Apeejay College among others were present on the dharna.
