Several handicrafts, including decoration articles, furniture, garments, jewellery and Assam tea have been attracting city residents at an exhibition-cum-sale of North-eastern handicrafts at Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall. The exhibition, organised by the North East Handicraft and Handloom Development Corporation, will continue till March 26.

Yasin Ali, 28, a decoration stuff trader from Barpeta in Assam, said, “We make our own products back in Assam. My family has been into it for the past many years. With the help of the government, we have been selling our products across the country. I am doing well as far as business is concerned.”

Dikee Lepcha, a trader in handmade jewellery from Sikkim, said she had been making jewellery for the past few years while her family members were involved in other businesses and jobs. “The platform provided by the Government of India boosts marketing of the products we make.” she said. “This is my first exhibition in Punjab. The sale has been less so far as compared to other states,” she rued.
