Jalandhar, September 29
After the registration of a corruption case against the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kartarpur Ranjit Singh Randhawa and a woman Nisha by the Jalandhar rural police, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Jalandhar Zone, Ishwar Chandar Sharma, today appointed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jalandhar, Jasprit Singh, as the new inquiry officer.
Earlier, the IG had appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Harkanwal Preet Singh Khakh as the main inquiry officer.
Confirming this, IG Sharma said, “Now I have appointed SSP Jalandhar (rural) Jasprit Singh as the inquiry officer and he has been told to submit a report after conducting a fair inquiry. SP, Crime, HPS Khakh, will not assist the SSP in the inquiry.”
Since the allegations were levelled against the DSP-level officer, it was decided to give inquiry to an SSP-rank officer, the IGP added.
Asked if the inquiry was time-bound, the IG said it was not a time-bound inquiry, rather it was an open inquiry and the SSP was told to conduct a fair inquiry to find the truth. The IG said whosoever was found guilty, would not be spared after receiving the inquiry report.
The IGP also revealed that the accused woman in the case, Nisha, was arrested by the Kartarpur police today.
Local BJP leaders had accused Kartarpur DSP Randhawa of taking Rs 25,000 bribe from a woman Nirmala Devi for not registering a case against her in a criminal case. Following this on September 25, DSP Ranjit Singh Randhawa and a woman Nisha were booked under Section 420 of the IPC and 7/8 Corruption Act at the Kartarpur police station.
The DSP has only been booked in the case and was not suspended. He would also continue to serve in Kartarpur as the DSP till the inquiry against him was completed.
