A 20-year-old orchestra dancer allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her rented accommodation in the Santokhpura locality here late last night.
The deceased was identified as Priyanka.
Acting on the complaint of her sister, Preeti, the police division No. 3 registered an abetment to suicide case against Heera and his wife Radhika, members of an orchestra group. Both are missing from their house after the incident was reported.
The complainant told the police that Priyanka had been in a live-in relationship with Heera who had also arranged rented accommodation for her near the Santokhpura area. “Heera used to frequently visit my sister and took her to orchestra functions, but never paid her dues. Recently, she had told me that Heera had not been paying her dues due to which she was living in tension,” she added.
Last night, she was alone at her house and hanged herself from the ceiling fan. The incident came to light last night when the complainant reached her house and found her dead.
The police said no suicide note was recovered from the spot.
A case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC was registered against the couple.
The police said the couple were residents of Santokhpura and they had gone underground, adding that the police was conducting raids at their suspected hideouts to arrest them.
