‘Organic’ Holi
The environment club of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated organic Holi on its premises. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen motivated students to remain positive, healthy and natural. She stressed that Holi was a festival to celebrate nature in all its hues, so the colours to be used in Holi should be natural. She applauded the efforts of the club. On this occasion, organic colours prepared by tribal woman from flowers of Rose, Cassia, Mehndi leaves, Palash were brought for staff and students of the college. A poster making-slogan writing competition on the theme ‘Eco-friendly Holi’ was also organised. Prabhjot got the first prize, Kanupriya got the second prize, Simardeep got the third prize and Vaishali Rana and Anamika got consolation prizes. The judges were Meenakshi Syal, Cheena Gupta, Lipika. In-charge of environment club Jyoti Kaul encouraged students to play Holi with organic colours. Dr Anjana Bhatia said such endeavours promote women empowerment and environment conservation.
Floral Holi celebrated
Delhi Public School celebrated ‘Holi Phoolon Bhari’. Children came dressed up in traditional clothes and presented a cultural programme and danced on the tunes of ‘Madhuban Mein Jo Kanhaiya’ and ‘Jaa Re Hatt Natkhat’. They also presented a group song ‘Rang Rangili Holi Aayi’. Children then enjoyed playing Holi with colourful flowers. Principal Ritu Kaul, co-ordinator Ramandeep Kaur and teachers joined the students and played Holi with them. The principal told students to minimise wastage of water.
- Students of St Soldier Polytechnic, Jalandhar, celebrated Holi in a unique way. Chairman Anil Chopra and vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra gave a new idea of celebrating a 'Green Holi'. Keeping in mind the cleanliness of the environment, students used flower petals instead of colours. With the concept there was no danger to eyes, hair and skin. The celebration gave a message to people that they should not use highly toxic colours which can be harmul. Flower petals help celebrate a clean and safe Holi and also add fragrance to the atmosphere. On the occasion, there was also a competition of theme-based Rangoli making by different teams of students. Rangoli theme was based on cleanliness of the environment and safety from toxic colours. Manhar Arora, Managing Director, Law College; Subhash Sharma, Director; Dr SPS Matiana, Director Polytechnic; Principal Vikrant Sharma and others also participated in the programme.
- INNOKIDS, the pre-primary wing of Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town and Loharan celebrated the festival of colours with flowers. The toddlers, attired as Radha and Krishna won over the spectators. By putting vermillion tilak on one another’s foreheads, they enlivened the spirit of festival by spreading the message of brotherhood. Teachers narrated them the story of Holika and highlighted the significance of the festival. They explained the demerits of synthetic colours and encouraged them to play eco- friendly Holi. The message to save water was also conveyed to students. Director Principal of the school, Dheeraj Banati, said that the significance of such celebration was to bring the latest generation closer to the rich cultural heritage. Gurmeet Kaur, in-charge, school’s GMT campus and Alka Arora, in-charge, Loharan campus, were also present on the occasion and celebrated Holi with children.

Natural colours for celebrations
Tiny tots of Kindergarten of Manav Sehyog School celebrated Holi with their friends and teachers. Teachers encouraged children to use herbal colors like Turmeric, Heena, instead of color present in the market. They also acquainted students about the harmful effects of market colors. At the end, they also danced on different songs and enjoyed a lot.
Students win prizes at tech fest
Students of Mehr Chand Polytechnic College, Jalandhar, bagged four prizes at the national-level technical festival held at DAVIET, Jalandhar. Students of the ECE department, Parteek Gupta, Jaspreet Singh, Manish Kumar Das, Tarsem Lal and Satwinderjit Singh bagged the first prize by making a project “Interbot” based on latest technology. Second prizes in different competitions were bagged by students of mechanical engineering department in their projects - “Paddy Harvesting Machine” made by Ritish Arora, Vishal Verma, Ritesh Roshan and Chetus Bajaj and “Tornado Boost” prepared by Rajat Sharma and Vikas. The third prize was won by students of the computer department having a project named “LAN gaming” presented by Rubaldeep Singh. Principal of the college Dr Jagroop Singh congratulated the Head of the departments concerned, project in-charges, winners and motivated all participating students. JS Ghera, Head of the Department, ECE; Richa Arora, Head of the Department, Mechanical; Rajeev Bhatia, Advisor, Student Chapter; Gaurav Sharma, Head of the Department Mech (E); Amit Sharma, Lecturer, Mech and Navita Komal, Lecturer, ECE, also congratulated the students.
Guest lectures
Banarsi Dass Arya Girls College, Jalandhar Cantt, organised guest lectures in chemistry, physics and zoology. Dr Sapna Sethi, Dr RK Sethi and Dr Harpreet Kaur from DAV University, Jalandhar, were the resource persons. They enlightened students on topics like nano science, cosmic railways and water pollution. Sapna Sethi talked about nano particles, their utility and how these particles were going to transform the future. RK Sethi told about his new research on cosmic railways, their use in future to produce energy at low cost using wind and solar energy. Harpreet Kaur talked about water pollution, its causes and how polluted water could be treated for reuse. Sarita Verma welcomed and honoured the guests. Monika Khosla, Jyoti Trehan and others were also present on the occasion.
High score in exams
Sukhman Kaur, a student of MA English (Semester I), of the post graduate department of English has bagged the second position in Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) examination held in December last year by securing 255 marks out of 400. Three other students Simrat Kaur, Khilan Gupta and Akanksha secured more than 55 per cent marks in the same exam. College staff congratulated and wished them success for their future endeavours. Principal Sanjeev K Arora blessed and felicitated Sukhman Kaur for bagging the second position in the university.
