Packaged food, what not to consume — almost everything!
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG), which did Maggi in, is used to flavour food after it loses its actual flavour due to overcooking, chemicals and pesticides. It destroys nerve cells in the brain. Suspected-MSG containing foods might be — low-fat milk, candy, chewing gum, drinks, over-the-counter medications (especially children’s), fruit yogurts, prescription drugs, IV fluids in hospitals, etc. The MSG inhibits natural growth hormone, promotes irreversible obesity, headache, nausea, weakness, difficulty in breathing and changes in heart rate, pulse rate, and/or heart palpitation.
Sodium Nitrate and Nitrite: Preservatives added to canned foods and processed foods, in particular processed meat products.
Brominated vegetable oil (BVO): Brominated vegetable oil is used to keep flavour oils in soft drinks in suspension. Bromate, the main ingredient of the BVO, is a poison. Even small amount of BVO can poison a child. In adults, this additive reduces immune defences and can cause allergic reactions.
Trans fats: Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil is made by reacting vegetable oil with hydrogen. When this occurs, the level of polyunsaturated oils (good fat) is reduced and trans fats are created. Trans fats can be found in foods such as vegetable shortening, candies, baked goods, fried foods, salad dressings, and processed foods. Associated with heart disease, breast and colon cancer, atherosclerosis and elevated cholesterol.
Caffeine - Natural caffeine (coffee, cocoa, tea) in moderation (1-3 small cup of coffee/tea per week) is fine for most people. Caffeine as an additive which is added to soft drinks, gum, diet pills and pain relievers is an addictive stimulant that causes calcium to be excreted from the bones, which can lead to osteoporosis and can increase infertility.
Sweetened beverages, refined sugars as well as pesticide contents in food items are also very harmful.
