They said the government's policy is to leave people without important health facilities, a stance condemned by the PCMS association here today.

Association leaders Dr Kashmir Singh Sohal, secretary general Dr Surinderpal Bhagat and Tarn Taran district president Dr Harsimrat Singh said medical education is a very long and costly affair. Lakhs of rupees have to be spent by students as well as study hard. MBBS course required Rs 2,20,000 fee as determined by the government's own quota annually, an amount which had been raised to Rs 2,42,000 in 2015. For the management quota the same amount was Rs 6,60,000 in 2014 and raised to Rs 7,62,000 this year.

So a student under government quota spent Rs 25 lakh and under management quota Rs 55 lakh for MBBS studies.

How can such a student manage with a job which merely pays him/her Rs 15, 600.

The government, in denying students their due was running away from its responsibilities. Specialist doctors are already not opting or the profession and if government stays put on its decision people won't even get MBBS health services. Association members demanded that along with big buildings, adequate doctors should also be provided for medical establishments and they demanded not just basic pay but full scale pay should be given to new doctor recruits.

The PCMS association has been protesting for the past some weeks in support of its demands and said its agitation shall continue until the government relents.
