Under President Ajit Singh Sethi and members of the school managing committee, World Earth Day was celebrated at Guru Amar Dass Public School, Model Town, Jalandhar. Students presented their views on increasing environmental pollution and global warming through poems and speeches. Principal Manpreet Kaur Bhogal motivated students to take care of the planet earth and plant more and more trees. President Ajit Singh Sethi, Mohinderjeet Singh, Surjit Singh Arora, Parampreet Singh Sonu, Kultaran Singh, Tejdeep Singh Sethi, Gagandeep Singh Sethi, Haravtar Singh, Director Principal Harminderjeet Kaur Chawla, Principal Manpreet Kaur Bhogal, Administrative Officer Avinash Kaur, Vice Principal Navneet Kaur and the president of ‘Pahal Prof Lakhbir Singh planted saplings of medicinal value on the school premises.

Environment awareness

Under Chairman Dr AF Pinto, Managing Director Grace Pinto and CEO Ryan Pinto, an event was conducted for the celebration of World Earth Day in Ryan International School, Jalandhar. Students of classes I and II presented their speech on the importance of environment while students of classes III to VIII gathered for a cycle rally to make people aware about the environment and importance of saving water and planting more trees. School Head Pooja Jain flagged off the cycle rally and enlightened pupils about the significance of World Earth Day.

Earth Day speech

Students of Somerset International School organised a small skit with the theme of ‘’Save Mother Earth’’. The students of senior wing presented their papers and enlightened the gathering on the causes of environmental degradation and deliberated upon the measures to check global warming. Activity in-charge Ritu Sandal also gave a motivating speech to students. School principal Sarbjit Kaur, in her presidential remarks, applauded the endeavours of the staff and students in organising the earth day and also exhorted students to grow more greenery in and around their vicinity and stop deforestation, curb pollution to some extent.

Nature conservation 

Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town, Loharan and Cantt, celebrated Earth Day with ‘Swachh Jalandhar Campaign’. The students took out a pageant and conveyed a message on nature conservation. MLA Pargat Singh, Councillor Balraj Thakur, head of Model Town Market Association Rohan Sehgal and members of the school management planted plants on the road side. On the occasion, a number of activities and competitions were organised for students. Students of class VII held hoardings and banners with slogans like ‘Save Water, Save Earth’. Students of classes IX and X participated in competitions like slogan writing and poster making based on the theme ‘Save environment’. Director Principal of the school, Dheeraj Banati, shared tips on how to save water and electricity. 

NCC firing camp

A two-day NCC firing camp was organised at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji Public School, Sarhali, under Brig Indermohan Singh Parmar, Col DPS Chahal and other officers. Students from different schools and colleges participated in the senior and junior firing competitions. School president Harminder Singh Samra, Director Raghubir Singh Chahal and Principal Jatinder Kaur appreciated all students and said such kind of camps should be organised in schools for students.

Traditional function

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised its traditional function ‘Amar Jyoti’ to mark the culmination of the academic session 2016-17 and bless the outgoing students. Neerja Chander Mohan, a senior member of KMV managing committee was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Sushma Chawla, renowned gynaecologist, Sushila Bhagat, vice president, KMV managing committee and Neeru Kapoor were the guests of honour. In her address, Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed guests and presented the annual report of the college and highlighted college’s achievements. The ‘Amar Jyoti’ which students had received from their seniors was passed on to junior students symbolising the handing over of the Vidyalaya tradition and culture from one generation to another. —TNS
