As a part of the 26th National Road Safety Week, the Jalandhar Commissionerate today distributed reflectors and pamphlets among commuters. The seven-day awareness drive started today from the BMC chowk where senior traffic police officials distributed pamphlets pertaining to the traffic rules.

Sources said the pamphlets were pasted on over 500 vehicles. The traffic police staff also interacted with commuters and apprised them of the traffic rules.

Road safety committee members not invited

Members of the District Road Safety Committee, which is headed by the DC, Jalandhar, said despite being a part of the committee, the traffic police did not invited them for the event. “By putting up reflectors on auto-rickshaws, they cannot solve the traffic problem. I have noticed that reflectors were put on auto-rickshaws without checking any document or licence of the drivers because most of the auto-rickshaws in the city are being plied illegally. Even the Supreme Court had banned illegal autos but the traffic police remained indifferent to the issue. Our committee has also planned to hold a separate awareness driver from tomorrow,” Surinder Saini, a member of the committee said.
