On the occasion of blood donation camp at the Government Arts and Sports College, Jalandhar, poster making and slogan writing competitions were held here today. As many as 50 students who participated on the occasion, five were awarded positions.

Gurpreet Singh stood first, Komalpreet second, Krishna third and Pawan Kumar and Balwinder received consolation prizes. On the occasion Principal Paramjit Kaur Jassal, medical officer Dr Sunita, Prof Rajnish, Prof Narinder, Prof Ashwini, Prof Jyotika, Prof Anu, among others, were present.

Graphic work honoured

Manpreet Singh, a student of BD IV Semester of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, was honoured for his graphic work titled ‘Rising of Punjab’. Done in wood cut, the work illustrated the progress in the villages of Punjab. Manpreet had participated in Annual Art Exhibition organised by Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi, Chandigarh where Member, Rajya Sabha, S Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson Punjab Art Council, Chandigarh and Sadhna Sangar, Secretary, Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi bestowed on him the cash award of Rs. 11,000. Dr Sucharita, Principal of the College congratulated Manpreet Singh and his mentor Prof Rajesh Kalsi and said it was a moment of pride for the institute.

Campus placement drive

Prestigious International companies, JW Marriott and The Taj conducted pool campus placement drive at CT Group of Institutions, Shahpur Campus for selecting young budding hospitality talent.

As many as 140 students from different colleges like CT Institute of Hotel Management (CTIHM), CT Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (CTIHM and CT Maqsudan), Innocent Heart, IHM Gurdaspur and others participated in the drive.

The recruitment process included the personal interview of the students. Dr Rohit Sarin (Director, CT Institute of Hotel Management) said, “Taj selected 20 students in which our students were in 13 numbers. Students were offered package of Rs 1, 50,000 per annum. JW selected 25 students out of which our students were 17 in number. Students were offered package of Rs 1,70,000 per annum. Ritu (training manager) with Jasleen Kaur (HR Director) from JW Marriott and Anurag ( HR Executive) with Shalu (HR Executive) from The Taj visited the campus for the recruitment of students. S Charanjit Singh Channi (Chairman, CT Group of Institutions) and Manbir Singh (Managing Director, CT Group of Institutions) congratulated the selected students.

Rally against drug abuse

To spread awareness against drug abuse, Youth Club of Lyallpur Khalsa College organised a mass rally in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club and Youth Services, Jalandhar, in which over 100 students participated.

The rally was flagged off by the college Principal Dr GS Samra. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Samra urged students to work actively for the eradication of this social evil and exhorted them to involve themselves in creative and recreational activities so as to keep away the menace of drugs. The rally was led by Prof Tarsem Singh in -charge of the college Centre of Youth Affairs.

Best folk dance

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya Giddha team outshined in 38th Naat Mela organised at Shri Maha Shakti Mandir, Batala. College giddha team won the title ‘Best Folk Dance’ competition. Harmanpreet Kaur and Amarjeet Kaur bagged second and third prizes respectively as overall best dancers. Naindeep Kaur received the title best dancer in the team. Principal Dr Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj congratulated Dr Jasbir Rishi, Advisor, Prof Navroop Kaur, Dean, Youth welfare Deptt Dr Ashmeen, in-charge giddha team and congratulated the participants on this achievement. — TNS
