Residents alleged that the road has been recarpeted a number of times but potholes emerged within a few days due to poor quality material being used.

Mohinderpal Singh, a resident said, “Earlier, potholes were there on one side of the two-way road. Now, potholes are on both sides as substandard material was used. The issue of sewage is another problem due to which recarpeting does not lasts long. Water remains stagnant for days after a brief spell of rain.”

He said, “After every 15 days, the MC starts repair work and leave it mid way. As a result, stones and mud is scattered on the entire stretch.”

Another resident Harpreet Singh said, “On the one hand, the MC have placed barricades to ensure commuters do not used the road. On the other, no construction work has commenced to date. Commuters have even faced injuries due to bad condition of the road. Just two days ago, a motorcyclist lost the balance due to uneven surface.”

Residents were left with no other option than wade through stagnant water in case in it rains, he said.

“We have contacted our councillor and the MC officials numerous times. They always state that a tender has been floated and the repair work is in progress. We pay taxes regularly but the government has failed to provide us safe roads.”

Corporation Engineer Rajnish Dogra, B&R Department said, “Repair work on one side of the road will be completed within a week. However, work on the other side of the stretch will take some time as issues related to sewerage have to be dealt first. Only then the repair work will begin.”
