IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG-PTU) is all set to begin admissions of graduation-level courses for the first time on its own campus through centralised online counselling. Prior to this, they had been conducting these courses only in its affiliated colleges.
In its newly built main campus, the university will be taking admissions for 40 seats in BTech computer sciences, electronics and communication, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. Besides this, the university will also do admissions under centralised online counselling on its other campuses located in Amritsar, Batala, Bhikhiwind, Dinanagar, Hoshiarpur and Mohali, where the BTech admissions will be done.
The varsity’s main campus will also conduct admissions in MSc physics, chemistry, mathematics, MTech with five specialised streams, BArch and MArch, MBA and MA journalism and mass communication, which are already running.
Apart from this, in value education, the university is offering post graduate diploma in human values and MTech in holistic development – system and technologies on its campus.
According to university spokesperson, the process of fee deposition under centralised online counselling has been effectively started. Approximately in mere two weeks, around 3,000 candidates have shown their interest and even deposited their fees too. It has been analysed that students and parents have shown more belief in centralised online counselling this time so that their wards can get admissions in the right way with due fees.
Another significant decision has been taken by the university in which non-JEE candidates who couldn’t sit in JEE exam, can also take part in second round of counselling on the basis of their class XII score. Prior to this, after counselling the colleges directly used to conduct admissions on which various complaints have been registered regarding non merit or fake or false merit admissions. Complaints were also received that admissions were sold out on the basis of mere registration. Now, admissions can fairly be conducted through online counselling. The fee of Rs 2,000 for online centralised counselling is non-refundable and can be deposited online itself.
The fee deposit process has already begun. The three participating state universities in online counselling include IKG-Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, and Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
Dr Ekonkar Singh Johal, Deputy Registrar Academics and Admissions, said according to the rules of the state government, this time, the benefits of SC scholarship and other offers can only be availed if the respective candidates apply for admissions through centralised online counselling.
Dean Planning and Development Dr NP Singh shared that along with two other state universities, IKG-PTU was conducting centralised online counselling for several key campuses and 67 engineering-affiliated colleges for different courses.
Dr Buta Singh Sidhu, university’s chief coordinator admissions and dean academics, appealed to the students that they must apply through centralised online counselling process so that right student could get right admission with right amount of fees, rather than dealing with unnecessary issues.
Rakesh Verma, Vice Chancellor of IKG PTU and Secretary Department of Technical Education, Punjab, said, “Government as well as university is taking strict measures to conduct fair and effective admissions. They are fully taking care that candidates won’t face any issues in admission process. There is no shortage of seats in state, but to get right seat as per capability and merit, students must apply admissions through online counselling only. This process is quite friendly for the present and time to come.”
