With their works to be put on display tomorrow, filmmaker and screenwriter Shyam Benegal and renowned architect Raj Rewal too will attend the opening of Jang-e-Azadi Memorial at Kartarpur.
Benegal’s 90-minute movie on the freedom movement, which has been shot in various parts of Punjab, was screened last evening at the memorial for the first time. Members of the Jang-e-Azadi foundation reportedly appreciated the movie that has a long starcast, including city-based actor Kuljinder Sidhu and Divya Dutta. Sidhu is playing the role of Mahant Narain Dass.
Hailing from Hoshiarpur and now based in Delhi, Rewal’s designs inside and outside the palatial building too would be put to test tomorrow.
He has attempted to make the memorial a blend of grandeur, aesthetics and architecture.
The CEO of the project, Vinay Bublani, claims to have completed the project within a record span of 18 months.
He, along with other members of the foundation, had visited Cellular Jail at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, famous Akshardham Temple at Gandhinagar in Gujarat, ‘Teen Murti Bhawan’ and the hi-tech museum showcasing significant aspects related to the National freedom struggle in the Parliament house in New Delhi for seeking vital inputs and information for the finalisation of the concept and design of this state-of-the art memorial.
While the Rs 200-crore contract for the construction work was with Deepak Builders, the interiors too have been done at a cost of Rs 50 crore through Godrej.
