Residents face problems in getting Aadhaar prepared

Phagwara, July 20

A large number of Phagwara and Goraya residents have been facing inconvenience in getting their Aadhaar cards prepared at various Sewa Kendras.

The government has already withdrawn the facility at Gramin Sewa Kendras, which are being run by locals, several months ago.

Harmesh Pahwa, in charge of a Gramin Sewa Kendra in Phagwara, confirmed the development and said now Aadhaar cards could be prepared at Sewa Kendras only. It is learnt that around 1,200 in charges of such Gramin Sewa Kendras have been black listed till date.

Residents of Phagwara can get their Aadhaar cards prepared at Sewa Kendras of Hadiabad and Baba Gadhia. The residents of Goraya have to go to Phagwara for the same.

Interestingly, the facility of issuing Aaadhar cards at the Sewa Kendra situated in the SDM’s office is yet to start even after two weeks.

Himani Gupta, a resident of Goraya, who was waiting to get her Aadhaar card prepared at the Sewa Kendra situated in Hadiabad for the past 7 hours, said she returned back yesterday as the Aaadhar card could not be issued due to a technical snag in the software.

Sukhdeep Kaur, in charge of the kendra, also admitted the fact. She said Aadhaar cards were being prepared at Sewa Kendras for the past two weeks.

The situation was not different at the Sewa Kendra of Baba Gadhia. No Aadhaar card was issued due to the leave of operator Priynaka, who had the password of biometric.

Centre in charge Minakshi said around 80 persons get services at the kendra every day.

Phagwara Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jyoti Bala admitted that a technical snag was developed at the Hadiabad kendra.

The SDM said she would take up the matter with the higher officials to improve the services at Sewa Kendras, which have been overseen by a private firm on contract.

The SDM said one machine was sent to the Sewa Kendra situated in the SDM’s office but it was brought back by the district administration before its use.

The SDM said now, she would approach the DC of Kapurthala to send a machine at the kendra to facilitate the residents for get their Aadhaar cards prepared.

It was learnt that corrections in Aadhaar cards are being made at Gramin Sewa Kedras. The government is likely to authorise a few banks and post offices to prepare the cards.
