On the occasion of its foundation day, Bank of Baroda sponsored and installed a sanitary napkin vending machine and incinerator for the disposal of used sanitary pads at the city railway station here on Friday.
Citing that awareness on menstrual hygiene is the need of the hour and the convenience of women passengers should be a priority, the bank officials said, “The sanitary napkin machines have been installed to benefit women passengers visiting the railway station. As we are celebrating our foundation day, there would be no better thing than to engage in social service and work for the uplift and hygiene of women travellers.”
The machine installed at the local railway station has a capacity to store 50 napkins at once and would be refilled by a female employee of the railway station. The staff members have been provided special training for operating the machine.
“We will make sure that it is maintained well. The railways will also advertise it so that female passengers get aware of the facility and can make optimum use of it. This machine makes easy availability and accessibility of sanitary napkins to female passengers,” said one of the railway officials present on the occasion.
Everyday, several passengers visit the local railway station and a large number of them are women, the machines would prove to be of great help for them, they added. Prominent among those present on the occasion were MLA Jalandhar Central Rajinder Beri and SDM Phagwara Jyoti Bala Mattu.
