The long-pending work of the construction of the road and sewage lying in front of the GST Bhawan is causing trouble for the staff as well as the public visiting the office.
Ever since the Bhawan was started in July last year, the road leading to it has not been laid. While the base of the road had been laid long ago, it still remains to be paved by PUDA owing to which the visitors and the staff remain a harassed lot.
Even worse is the fact that the polluted water which overflows from the sewers gets accumulated in front of the building and in the parking lot, thus presenting a grim picture of the otherwise newly constructed four-storeyed building that is also soon going to have another public service office.
The Deputy Commissioner of Excise and Taxation, Jaspinder Singh, said, “I have given written complaints to the Municipal Corporation more than 60 times and PUDA, but no action is being taken in this regard.” Even the passport office will soon be shifted to an under- construction building there. Consequently, more people will come and go there and face the inconvenience, he added.
The negligence of the civic authorities is making employees and nearby residents suffer as the outflow of water from the sewerage has also become a den for mosquitoes and other insects.
Speaking to the JDA Chief Administrator Officer Girish Dayalan, said, “The JDA is not aware about the issue and we are yet to confirm whether the area comes under MC territory or PUDA.” He added that the department would look into the matter and take concrete steps to make the area clean.
In addition, MC Commissioner Basant Garg said the whole city was going through the cleaning process and super suction machines had been installed at major locations connecting the nearby locations to improve the condition of sewerage all around the city. Therefore, as soon as the sewerage plug around the GST Bhawan is connected to the main connection, the problem will be solved and the water accumulated there will be drained out. He assured that within a few days, the area would be cleaned.
