Rocksport School to train city students

After conducting successful adventure programmes for students from across Asia for over 16 years, Rocksport, Asia’s largest school adventure camping programme, is coming to Punjab. With its specially-crafted programmes to bring out the latent leadership skills in students, Rocksport is gearing up to train, educate and enhance the skills of the youth of Punjab. The Rocksport is an adventure camping programme that inspires children from different schools for camping and adventure. During a press conference, Piyush Khandelwal, spokesperson from Rocksport, said every Indian child played cricket. They wanted to make the adventure sports as popular as that and there was also news that adventure sports had been included in the 2020 Olympic Games. He said their programmes would start from Jalandhar as they had already opened an office here.

Extension lecture 

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya's department of bioinformatics organised an extension lecture on 'Application of Bioinformatics in Genetically modified organisms'. Vibhu Bhatia, assistant professor, department of biotechnology, Shaheed Udham Singh College of Engineering and Technology, Mohali, participated as guest speaker. In her talk, her emphasis was on how the genetically modified organisms already in market were harmful or useful for the present era. She made students aware of many new techniques that have been used to make an organism genetically modified and also discussed the negative and positive aspects of these genetically modified vegetables, fruits and animals. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the department for having organised such a useful extension lecture for the students.

Placement drive 

A Placement Drive by Paul Merchants Ltd was organised at Ramgarhia Institute of Engineering and Technology, Phagwara, for MBA students passing out in 2017. Manoj Bhalla, regional head, and Ajay Kumar, area manager from Paul Merchants Ltd, was welcomed by Dr Naveen Dhillon, principal, RIET. The event witnessed the active participation of more than 65 students. At the end of the event, 15 students were selected as marketing executive and operational head on a package of Rs 2.8 lakh per annum.—TNS
