Jalandhar, January 20

The city police seized Rs 34 lakh of unaccounted new currency from a cash van near Silver Plaza Chowk here today.

ACP (North) Deepika Singh said the people carrying the cash had claimed to be the employees of the Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) and said that they had taken the cash to get it filled in various ATMs of the city.

“Alhough they had proof of Rs 18 lakh, they could not show any documents for laying claim to the money found in the van,” said Singh.

The police have handed over the case to the Income Tax Department for investigation.
