The Jalandhar Rural police today arrested two accused allegedly involved in a murder case in Adampur.
Ranjeet Singh, alias Raja (31), and Kamaljeet Singh, alias Kamal (30), were arrested with two pistols, six cartridges and heroin.
The police said the two were gangsters and were involved in robberies, snatching and drug peddling.
Ranjeet Singh, who had done a job in Sonalika Company in Hoshiarpur, had allegedly brutally murdered one Deepa of Kapurthala after striking a deal worth Rs 12-13 lakh with Kala Mama from the same district. He was declared a proclaimed offender in seven cases.
The other gangster had robbed Rs 2 lakh, along with currency of dollars, pounds and euros and a laptop, from Bhogpur. He was also involved in the smuggling of heroin in Nangal and Zirakpur.
Son of ex-servicemen, a proclaimed offender: Kamaljeet Singh’s father is an ex-serviceman from the Army and his mother is a teacher. A case under the SC/ST Act is already registered against him in which he is a proclaimed offender. He had remained in Italy from 2010 to 2016.
Both Kamaljeet and Ranjeet were known to each other and would often meet at a dera situated in Adampur.
A case had been registered against him under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act for the smuggling of heroin in which he remained in jail for three months and was later released on bail.
Apart from it, two accused involved in drug peddling, Manpreet Singh, alias Money (23), and Mandeep Singh (34), were arrested from Kartarpur. A total of 70 gm of heroin was recovered from their possession.
