Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) national executive member Rajinder Singh (Fauji) was arrested after a raid at his house in his native village Nawanpind on Tuesday. Family members alleged that he was taken away by Phagwara Superintendent of Police Harminder Sandhu without giving any explanation. When contacted, the SP denied any such arrest, but later stated that Fauji was taken into custody as a preventive measure and was released later. Meanwhile, Fauji alleged that numerous Sikh activists and politicians had been repeatedly arrested in the last few weeks.
Attempt to kidnap
On a complaint lodged by Jagbir Kaur, a resident of Baba Gadhia locality, the police arrested her husband Gaurav Ghumber under Sections 365 and 511 of the IPC on charges of attempting to kidnap his own four-year-old son Eklabhya in connivance with an unknown woman on December 22. Jagbir said she and Gaurav were induged in a divorce case.The accused was produced before the magistrate here today who sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.
Travel agent booked
The Phagwara Police has booked a travel agent from Jalandhar, Chetan Kumar, under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC on the charges of duping Hardip Singh, a resident of Harkrishan Nagar, of Rs 2.75 lakh on the pretext of sending him to Italy. The accused didn’t send him abroad and also didn’t return his money.
