Jalandhar, March 19
During his thanksgiving visit to Kapurthala today, newly elected Minister for Power and Irrigation Rana Gurjeet Singh instructed the district administration and police officials to work diligently and impartially to ensure better governance.
He also asked administrative officers, including the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP not to leave their station while they were on duty. Stressing upon officers to be sensitive and responsible towards the expectations of the common people, he assured them that there would be no interference in the functioning of the police or the administration. “However, that does not mean the administration or the police will not be held responsible and accountable,” he clarified.
Rana called upon the police to deal with the problem of drugs and the law and order as the topmost priority. “Our chief minister is under oath to finish the curse of drugs within one month and it is the duty and responsibility of all of us to make that happen,” he asserted.
Hailing the decision of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to set up special task force for eliminating the scourge of drugs in the state, Rana said the way the Chief Minister was fulfilling the promises and commitments, had redeemed and restored the faith and confidence of people in the government. “There is a sense of relief and satisfaction not only among the people, but the administration and the police as well,” the minister said, while adding the CM had made it categorically clear, through word and deed, that there would be no vendetta or vindictiveness against anyone.
Referring to local problems, particularly related to civic amenities, Rana asked the local Municipal Council to prepare a blueprint which would spell out the programme for total cleanliness of the town in a time bound manner. The Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that the Suwidha Centres function properly and serve the purpose these have been set up for. He said there were complaints about the improper functioning of Suwidha Centres which must be addressed in a time bound manner.
