A woman was today seriously injured when she tried to prevent the robbery planned by her servant who was working with her for the past two years.
The woman, Sunita Jain, a resident of the Chotti Baradari area, was the “bhabhi” of Satish Jain, owner of Haveli restaurant in Phagwara, and is married to his elder brother Ajit Jain.
Informing more, Satish Jain said the accused, Ashok, was working at his brother’s house and hailed from Pratapgarh village in Uttar Pradesh. He, along with many of his fellow men, was working with the Jain’s family for the past two years.
“On the fateful day, Ashok sought a few days’ leave and left for his home at around 11 am. However, he returned at 11 pm on the same day in a planned manner as he was aware that my brother and nephew will be out of the house that time,” said Jain.
He added that while his “bhabhi” was sleeping in her room, Ashok began to collect all cash and jewellery kept in various almirahs. However, his brother came back. On seeing his brother shouting, his “bhabhi” got up and tried to prevent him from taking away the bag.
Fearing that he will be caught, Ashok attacked Sunita with sharp-edged weapons, including kitchen knife, and made several cuts on her body. Later, he fled from the place.
Jain said despite the area being posh and having some of the most influential families of the city, the police had made no adequate security arrangements to safeguard them from incidents such as thefts.
He said even though the police were immediately informed about the theft, cops arrived late, only to record their statements and made no efforts to nab the accused at various nakas installed in the city.
He said though Sunita was out of danger, the incident had shocked her completely.
