Seventh convocation organised at LPU

The President of the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, chaired the two-phased seventh convocation of Lovely Professional University (LPU) today. She honoured PhDs and toppers of various LPU academic programmes and delivered the convocation address. During the ceremony, more than 15,000 distance education students also received post-graduate and graduate degrees and diplomas. The convocation also turned out to be momentous for Mauritius and India when the chief guest was conferred honorary Doctorate of Letters (Honoris Causa) degree of the University for her ardent work towards advancement of science and technology and in recognition of her services for the society. Lovely Group chairman Ramesh Mittal, vice-chairman Naresh Mittal, LPU chancellor Mr Ashok Mittal, pro-chancellor Rashmi Mittal, vice chancellor Ramesh Kanwar and director general HR Singla were present on the occassion.

Inter-school contests held

KMV Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar, organised its annual Spark-An Inter-Collegiate School Competition. Various competitions like logo making, stand-up comedy, quiz, ad-mad show, news reading, still life, poster making, divided attention, group dance, rangoli, power point presentation, short term memory quiz and photography were organised which had an overwhelming participation of nearly 350 students from various institutions. Sh Alok Sondhi, general secretary, KMV managing committee was the chief guest. Dhruv Mittal, joint treasurer, KMV managing committee and Dr SP Gupta, Member, KMV managing committee were the guests on the occasion.

Annual function at Gurukul school

The 9th and 10th annual cum prize distribution function of the Gurukul School Malko Nakodar Road, Jalandhar, was organised. The function was based on theme "Unity in diversity". Students presented various dance performances based on different seasons and festivals of the year and conveyed the message of equality among masses on the basis of religion, caste, creed and race. Dance performances included Dindi (Marathi) dance, Christmas dance, Sajda: based on Eid. Monika Lamba, Chief Judicial Magistrate - cum- Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Mohali, was the chief guest of the function. School director Sushma Handa, president NK Handa, principal Rupinder Grewal and vice-principal Neetu Saini presented their speeches.

Annual day observed

Kamla Nehru Public School, Chak Hakim, Phagwara, celebrated its annual function recently with great pomp and show. The theme of the event was "Naya Daur- the transformation". Brig Inder Mohan Singh Parmar, NCC Group Commander, Jalandhar was the chief guest and the guest of honour was Mrs. Tripat Parmar. The cultural bonanza presented by nearly1,200 students enthralled everyone. Guest of honour IK Sardana, president school managing committee, congratulated students and their parents. Principal PK Dhillon said the school was all set for a digital transformation.

Workshop on Rebonding

A workshop on hairstyle technique "rebonding" was organised by the department of cosmetology of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar. Hair expert Azaz gave a live demonstration on various rebonding products. Principal Dr Kiran Aora said such workshops help in the enhancement of personality of students.

Postal stamp on HMV

The 34th district level postage stamps exhibition "Jalpex-2016" has been displayed by Postal Division, Jalandhar in Virsa Vihar. This exhibition has added one more golden moment to DAV managing committee, New Delhi and HMV. The postal stamps of the president of DAV managing committee and Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Poonam Suri with his picture and the special coverage of HMV has been issued by the Indian postal system and the Ministry of Communication. On the occasion, Director of Postal Services Meenakshi Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Mohammad Hanif were also present. They congratulated Principal Dr Ajay Sareen for the achievement. HMV became the first institution to achieve this success after the restarting of customised printing of postal stamps on the name of institution in 2016. Director Meenakshi Yadav handed over the first edition of postal stamps of Dr Poonam Suri and special coverage of HMV to Principal Dr Ajay Sareen. On this event, the Dean (academic) Dr. Meenakshi Syal, Dean (youth welfare) Prof Navroop and the office superintendent Amarjeet Khanna were also present.

Inter-college sports contest

Lyallpur Khalsa College bagged the first rank in archery in the inter-college competition at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. College principal Gurpinder Singh Samra congratulated the victorious students and their coach. The college has already won the prestigious Sardar Teja Singh Samundari Overall General Championship Sports Trophy of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar for the record 21st time, he said. Balbir Kaur, president governing council and Jaspal Singh, head of the department, physical education, congratulated the victorious sports team. 

Open house at women studies centre

The Women Studies Centre of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organised an open house discussion to provide students a platform to share their thoughts and experiences on issues related to women. The queries of the students were answered by Principal and Director, Women Studies Centre, Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Dr Madhumeet, Dean student welfare and Amarpreet Khurana, co-ordinator for the Centre. 

Educational trip

The Ramgarhia College of Education organised a one-day trip to Sri Devi Talab Mandir and Pushpa Gujral Science City. More than 100 students and six teachers were part of the trip. Principal Surinderjit Kaur congratulates the staff and students.
