Sewerman dies after inhaling toxic gas

Ravi (37), a contractual sewerman with the Military Engineer Services (MES) died after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a sewer near Toapkhana Bazaar in the Cantonment Area on Wednesday.

According to Cantonment SHO Ram Pal, Ravi, along with other three workers, had gone to clean the sewer in the Toapkhana bazaar. “While the other two waited outside, Ravi, along with the other worker, went inside. Suddenly, both of them fainted. Realizing some problem, the other two immediately pulled them outside,” said Rampal. He further said though both were immediately taken to the Military Hospital, Ravi died while other worker survived.

Ravi is survived by two children and his wife is an anganwadi worker.
