The son of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Surinder Singh, who was killed when he was hit by a speeding car driven by robbers on the Kapurthala-Amritsar highway in Subhanpur on May 14, will be taken as a sub-inspector in the Punjab Police.
This was announced by the IGP, Jalandhar zone, Lok Nath Angra, during the bhog ceremony of the deceased cop at Kuka village in Kapurthala. MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur, DIG Rajinder Singh and SSP, Kapurthala, Rajinder Singh, were also present on the occasion.
The IG said as per the government rules, the family of the deceased ASI had also been given Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia grant.
"All cops of the Kapurthala police district would also give their one-day salary to the bereaved family," the IG added.
On the occasion, MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur said the name of the village school would be renamed after martyr Surinder Singh.
Surinder Singh (54), posted at the Subhanpur police station, was attempting to stop the robbers at a naka when he met with the tragedy.
