A general body meeting of the Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (SGMEA), Jalandhar, was held where several issues pertaining to the industry were discussed by the dignitaries from across the country.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Ajaya Mahajan of Goodwin Sport. It was attended by large number of members from Jalandhar, Meerut, Delhi and Mumbai. Jayesh Rambhia of Premsons Plastics Pvt Ltd, Mumbai, highlighted means for the growth and technology for the upgradation of the sports goods industry. He said major manufacturing players like China, Taiwan and Pakistan have captured the major portion of sports goods market in the world, thus, making India lag behind. Rajesh Kharabanda, senior vice-chairman, SGMEA, said the World Federation of Sports Goods Industry (WFSGI) is very keen to set up quality upgradation for the Sports Goods Industry of India and Pakistan and would have a base at Jalandhar and coordinate with the SGMEA. They have selected there items for upgradation via football, cricket and boxing. Rajesh Arora of Play Craft, New Delhi, informed in detail the means as to how to innovate and be competitive in the world market.—TNS
