Jalandhar, April 4

After providing training in martial arts (karate) to girl students of Class IX and X at government schools in the state for many years, the state government is now all set to give all female physical education teachers training in the same.

Thereafter, these teachers will give training to girl students of Classes VI to XII at government schools.

For the past some years, girl students of Class IX and X at government high and senior secondary schools are getting training in self-defence — karate and martial arts — along with studies.

Female physical education lecturers, PTIs, DPEs and other teachers aged up to 50 years working at government schools will receive training to further train the girl students.

The teachers will be trained batch-wise — 10 days per batch — in Chandigarh during training sessions, which will be held from April 9 to 25.

All arrangements for their meal and accommodation will also be made in Chandigarh.

A physical education teacher said it was a great move. “These days, girl students should have the ability of defending themselves. The move will be very beneficial for all girl students. Now, a large number of students will be able to get training in self-defence.”
