The star cast of the upcoming Punjabi movie based on sports, particularly hockey, ‘Khido Khundi’, which generally means ball and stick, was in the city on Tuesday for its promotion.
The movie stars Punjabi singer-actor Ranjit Bawa as the main lead, Mandy Takkar, Manav Vij, Guggu Gill and marks the debut of Elnaaz Norouzi, an Iranian-German model. The movie is set at the backdrop of Sansarpur village in Jalandhar, which is popularly known for producing 15 Olympians, who brought laurels to the nation in hockey.
“This film closely relates to the sentimental values of the village, known as the Mecca of hockey. Many Olympic medals have come from that one village for Indian hockey,” said Ranjit Bawa.
He said, “This is the first time that Punjabi film industry is coming up with a movie based on sports. The movie is completely motivational and will make every Indian proud of its nationality. The movie is a tribute to all the unsung heroes of Punjab as well it will definitely inspire youngsters towards sports.”
He stressed that the story was not about a particular person or event, but about the bravado of two NRI brothers and their passion for the game. Directed by Rohit Jugraj and produced by Talwinder Hayre, the film is slated to release this weekend.
