PG Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Doaba College, Jalandhar, organised a six-day workshop on sound production and usage of sound in audio and video production.
Kunal Aggarwal and Sukhdeep, eminent sound recordists and producers, were invited as resource persons. They were accorded a hearty welcome by HoD Dr Simran Sidhu, faculty and students.
Kunal and Sukhdeep discussed the importance of sound in audio-video production.
They said: “While watching a film one can bear with bad visuals but a film with bad audio cannot be tolerated.”
While discussing the evolution of sound, he told them about the similarity between the structure of human ear, throat and speaker, microphone, respectively.
They emphasised on the availablity and usage of various microphones currently used widely in the field of sound production. Later, they gave a demonstration to the students on a conceptualised, scripted, recorded commercial of 30 seconds, and cited the reasons behind using the concept, logic and various sound effects in the production of commercials.
They shared in detail how sounds that are not readily available, could also be created in the studio by using various objects around us. This exercise was followed by a dubbing session in which students were shown various video clips of dubbing, dialogue synchronisation and adding music to a video.
Later, students were asked to do the same dubbing exercise using dialogue, foley and music on different video clips. Around 38 students from departments of journalism and mass communication of various colleges, including HMV, DAV and Doaba College, and faculty members attended the workshop.
