Teachers’ unions come together

Jalandhar, February 24

A convention of teachers was held at Desh Bhagat Yadgaar Hall here today. Various teacher bodies attended the convention and discussed their demands and other issues.

Bhupinder Singh Waraich, state president, Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) and Devinder Singh Punia, general secretary, addressed the teachers and said a decision had been taken to align various unions, including 3442 Adhyapak Union, Adhyapak Ekta Manch, 7654 Sanjha Front, ETT and Computer teachers.

They said the DTF had been putting in efforts in this direction for the past few years. Germanjit Singh, state president, Adhyapak Ekta Manch; Vikram Dev Singh, state president, 3442 Adhyapak Union and Parminder Mansa, state vice president, 7654 Sanjha Front and state president Navdeep Samana said these union were coming together to provide the direction and structure to teachers’ movement and raise their voice against privatisation, globalisation and liberalisation in education. Leaders of the unions said they were joining hands against the efforts to keep education away from the poor.

DTF secretary Amarjit Shastri, state committee member Digvejpal Moga, Balvir Chand Longowal and Dharam Singh, EETT Teachers leader Jagpal Chahal, Computer teachers’ leader Paramvir Singh, Desraj Samana, Nachattar Singh, Manpreet Samrala, 5778 Union district unit president Rahul Kumar and others were present.
