The training programme for the “Umang clinics” was organised today at the District Training Centre, Civil Hospital, Jalandhar under the guidance of civil surgeon Dr Maninder Kaur Minhas.
The purpose of the Umang Clinics is to provide teenagers with health facilities. All medical officers in the district, lady health visitors (LHVs) and auxiliary nursing midwives (ANMs) participated in the training programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Maninder Kaur Minhas said the “Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health Programme (ARSH) clinics” had been organised to provide teenagers with counselling. However, the name of Arsh Clinics has been changed to Umang Clinics. As per the requirement, certain other changes have also been made.
She said teenagers would be provided with information about problems related to physical and mental health which they encounter at this age. She said the staff had been instructed to handle teenagers politely and mannerly when they approach them for anything.
“Children from age group of 9 to 14 years can consult experts on their queries. Separate rooms and both men and women experts have been provided for the ease of teenagers,” said Dr Surinder Kumar, Assistant Health Officer.
