Ultrasound machine of private hospital sealed

Inspection teams of the Health Department, Jalandhar, today sealed the ultrasound machine of Sidhu Hospital at Pathankot Bypass for not fulfilling the required documents while conducting the scanning of a pregnant woman.

Under the leadership of Dr Gurmeet Kaur Duggal, District Family Welfare Officer-cum- Nodal Officer, the teams were constituted to keep check on the uses of ultrasound scanning in city hospitals. Dr Duggal said during the checking at Sidhu Hospital, the teams found that the sonologist was conducting the scanning of a pregnant woman without getting the ‘F’ form filled, which was mandatory for conducting the scanning of any pregnant woman. Apart from this, the required paperwork and record was not maintained as per the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNTD) Act. Therefore, the ultrasound machine of the hospital had been sealed till further orders. She said the hospital had also been directed to follow the PCPNTD Act properly.

The department had been conducting raids to maintain the implementation of the act. — TNS
