Understanding maths not difficult anymore

Maths will no longer be boring for Class IX and X as the subject will be taught through various activities. Last year, under ‘Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab’, the concept of maths fair was started for the Classes VI to VIII owing to a student’s non performance in the subject. 

It is for the first time, that Classes IX and X have got included under the project and the students of senior classes will too have a chance to work on the basics of the subject through various activities. 

To make maths an interesting subject among students, a math fair will be organised, the preparation for which has already started in the schools. The teachers have been given training under the program ‘Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab’ and they will help students learn and understand topics which they find difficult otherwise. 

Be it algebra, pythagoras theorem, finding LCMs, circumferences and surface areas, everything will be taught to them through models and charts. 

Students of government schools not excelling well in math had prompted the state Education Department to ascertain the reason. A survey was carried out last year to find out what the real problem was. It was then found out that even the basics of the students reaching the secondary classes were not clear. 

“Previously the students couldn’t even solve the sums related to addition, subtraction and multiplication,” informed a Math lecturer.
