Vajra Museum inaugurated
Jalandhar: Following the creation of Vajra Veer Vatika in June this year, residents of the city have another proud land mark to cheer about – the Vajra Museum. The museum was inaugurated by Lt Gen Arvind Dutta, Corps Commander Vajra Corps, along with Simmi Dutta, Zonal President, AWWA, here on Saturday It now forms a proud part of the integrated complex showcasing the saga of Sikh valour in the service of the nation as well as glorious battles and victories of the Vajra Corps. School children from Army Public School were also present during the inauguration ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, the Corps Commander highlighted that the newly created museum had attractive galleries and models of military equipment. It will provide impetus, inspiration and encouragement to the youth of Punjab for joining Indian Army. TNS
Anganwadi staff hold protest
Phagwara: Hundreds of members of the All-Punjab Anganwadi Workers’ Union belonging to Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr and Kapurthala districts, led by its state president Harjit Kaur Panjola, sat on a dharna on Saturday in support of their long-pending demands. They alleged that the government had been giving less salaries to the anganwadi workers, while the Centre had increased the honorarium of anganwadi workers and helpers by Rs 1,500 and Rs 750, respectively, last year. Later, they submitted a memorandum to Congress leader Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal. OC
Married woman abducted
Phagwara: On a complaint by Sarwan Kumar of Bhabhiana village, the police have registered a case under Section 363 and 366, IPC, against a village youth, Gurpreet Singh on charge of abducting his married daughter. She came to meet her parents a few days ago and was missing since October 1, the complainant said. OC
Motorcycle stolen
Phagwara: A motorcycle belonging to Mahesh Mohan of Mansa Devi Nagar was stolen outside the office of an insurance firm here on Friday. The police have registered a case under Section 379, IPC, and started a probe. OC
