Phagwara: A 20-year-old student of Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara, identified as Karan Saini, was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants near a dhaba on the Phagwara-Jalandhar national highway late on Friday night. The deceased, a resident of Bhajalpur village, near Patiala, along with his friend Ashutosh were going to a dhaba for having food when they were attacked by unknown assailants near its parking space. The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against the miscreants and investigating the matter. OC
Homage paid to Police martyrs
Jalandhar: Police Commemoration Day was observed at the district police office during which a large number of police officials of the district as well as two family members of police martyrs — Piara Lal (son of martyr constable Gurdeep Chand, a resident of Dhadda village, and Om Parkash, brother of Charanjit Lal, of Bolina Doaba village, Jalandhar) — paid homage to their departed souls by lighting candles and offering flowers. Two saplings were also planted at Police Lines in the name of the martyrs. Ravinder Pal Singh, SP, Headquarters, Jaspreet Singh, DSP, Headquarters, and Inspector Sukhdev Singh also paid homage to the martyrs. TNS
Drive against drug menace
Jalandhar: ‘Satyamev Jayate Society’ organised a colloquium on ‘Say no to drugs’ at Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town. Pankaj Sarpal and Kapil Bhatia, president and chairman of the society, respectively, said the organisation had been providing selfless service to society. "We have started a drive against drug abuse. Youth were the assets of the nation and awareness about drug abuse could prevent them from the menace," they said. The students also took a pledge to keep themselves away from drugs and be a part of the campaign. TNS
