Vijay Mahajan gets ‘Doctor of the Year’ award by IMA

Dr Vijay Mahajan, managing director of Tagore Hospital and Heart Care Centre, has been awarded the “Doctor of the Year Award” by the Indian Medical Association, Punjab, on the occasion of Doctors Day, for his contribution to the medical profession and social welfare. The award will be presented to him during NATCON 2016, the National Conference of IMA at Amritsar in December, 2016.
Having secured 2nd position in the final year MBBS at Government Medical College, Patiala, Dr Mahajan did MD (Medicine) from PGI, Chandigarh, and stood first in university and was awarded the gold medal.
He later worked as registrar in the Department of Cardiology at PGI, Chandigarh.
He Joined Devi Hospital at Jalandhar as Medical and Heart specialist in 1975 working as Medical Superintendent of the same hospital till 1979. He started Multispeciality Tagore Hospital at Jalandhar in 1979 and started Heart Surgery Centre by the name of “Tagore Heart Care & Research Centre” in 1991.
The centre has performed two types of heart operations for the first time in the world. The centre’s name has entered in “Limca Book of World Records, 2000” for performing these operations.
Previously, Dr Mahajan has bagged awards like the PGI Alumni Award for Excellence in Medical and Social Services, Medical Rattan award by the Himutkarsh Society of Himachal Pradesh for providing excellent medical services to people of Himachal Pradesh and Physician Par Excellence award by the Association of Physicians of India.
He also conducted research work on “Risk factors for coronary heart disease among Punjabis” and recently, his research work has been published in a book titled, “Health Psychology” published by Abhijeet Publications, Delhi.
