Jalandhar, December 20
Cricketer Mandeep Singh is all set to marry Jasdeep Jaswal on December 25. The event will take place at a local Gurudwara near Phagwara followed by a glittering reception at Club Cabbana on December 30.
Confirming this, a jubilant Mandeep talked about how he met girlfriend Jasdeep around three years back. He said Jasdeep's cousin used to study with him in school and he also kept talking to her through social media. Finally, in 2013, the couple got a chance to meet for the first time at Amritsar airport. Mandeep talked about how Jasdeep dodged her maternal uncle who came to pick her up at the airport to meet her. "Jasdeep informed her uncle that she was going to buy some chips and came to meet me at a corner of the airport. I was ready for the moment and as soon I saw her, I kneeled over and presented her a rose," giggled the young cricketer. Her uncle might have been the only person present at the airport who did not see the rose act, he laughed.
When asked about her fiancée, Mandeep shyly said that even though she was born and brought up in England, she was a true Indian by heart. "She cares for me a lot. She knows about my tough regime as a cricketer and gives me ample space to breathe in. She will leave her lucrative career in England to stay here with me in India," said Mandeep.
Who proposed first and how? "It was me who proposed first," said the top order batsman. He said as they first met on August 11, he went to England on the same day this year and again kneeled over to propose her for marriage by presenting her a beautiful ring.
"I am a simple Punjabi guy and I told her straight away - Chall hun Vyah kar hi layiye (Let's get married now). She was shocked and excited and immediately said yes. Now, we are all set to tie the knot," said Mandeep.
The cricketer is making strenuous efforts to make this event a memorable one for his fiancée. His family members said that he was preparing a special bhangra item for her on their wedding day. The couple is planning to go to Maldives for honeymoon.
Mandeep said that though he was completely engrossed in his wedding planning at present, he was equally focused on his game and was hopeful to get a chance to represent the country in the upcoming ODI and T-20 series between India and England in January the coming year.
