Wetland diorama to be set up at Science City

A diorama of wetland and its biodiversity is shortly being set up at the science city. The information was given by Dr Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, on the occasion of Wetland Day.

The programme was jointly organised by Science City, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

Over 300 school students participated from all over Punjab in the photography and poster making competitions organised at the Science City on the occasion.

Further, he said, forest and wetlands and its rich biodiversity play an important role in our life specially for balancing the environment.

Geetanjali Kanwar, Senior Project Officer from Hari Ke Pattan was also present on this occasion. She provided detailed information in her presentation on migratory birds and its conservation. She said, “Fresh water dolphins are only found in India and Pakistan. In India lot of species of dolphin are found in the Beas and Hari-ke.”

Principal Scientific Officer Dr SK Saxena from Punjab State Council for Science and Technology gave valuable views related to wetlands in Punjab. He said Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST) has sponsored more than 2,000 students from all over Punjab to visit Science City and they got aware about the wetland and its importance. The PSCST along with the help of Ministry of Environment and Forest has been taking many steps to conserve the wetland like creating awareness about organic farming, weed control and water conservation.

Dr Saroj Bala, professor, department of botany and plants, GNDU, was also present on this occasion. She gave views on wetland and their importance in our daily life.
