Jalandhar, February 25
Following the suicide of a Gazipur resident, Harkamaljit Singh, the police have arrested his wife Neeru Bhamra from Dasuha.
In her statement given to the court, Neeru said she had not talked to Harkamaljit for the past two days. Meanwhile, Harkamaljit’s post-mortem examination was conducted on Sunday and later, his body was handed over to his family. He was cremated on Sunday.
Neeru was arrested by the police on the same day. While the Maqsudan police have claimed that there were eminent proofs against Neeru, the police were also looking into the call details of the accused as well as Harkamaljit.
The victim had committed suicide on Friday, blaming his wife Neeru for torturing him mentally.
The couple had got married only a month ago and the incident happened less than a week after their return from their honeymoon in Malaysia. Harkamaljit, who ran a paint shop at his village, hanged himself at his home on Friday. In his suicide note, the 27-year-old blamed his wife Neeru’s alleged extra-marital affairs as the reason behind his death.
Jarnail Singh, SHO of the Maqsudan police station, said: “Neeru has been remanded to police custody. The suicide not found from Harkamaljit is incriminating evidence that she was responsible for his suicide.”
