A woman, who had allegedly killed two daughters and a nephew, was today sent to jail. She was arrested by the police on Saturday and was on one-day police remand. She was arrested after the viscera report from the chemical laboratory Kharar confirmed that she had poisoned her nephew.

Notably on April 11, the Kabirpur police had registered a murder case against the wife of an NRI. She was booked under Section 302 of the IPC for allegedly killing her two daughters and a minor boy. The case was registered after Sukhdev, the father-in-law of the woman, approached the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala Ashish Chaudhary and demanded action against his daughter-in-law. Woman's arrest was stayed by SSP Kapurthala as viscera report was pending.

The woman was identified as Sarabjit Kaur, wife of Baljit Singh, a resident of Saroopwal village, and a native of Mansa. Her husband, an NRI, was living in Greece. Deceased were her daughters - Amanpreet (2) and Navjit Kaur (6) - and two-year-old Maninder Singh, son of her brother-in-law Surijit Singh. Inspector Sukhwinder Singh, Kabirpur police station said viscera report from the chemical laboratory had been received a few days ago in which it was clearly stated that woman's nephew had died due to poison. "We were immediately alerted by the senior police officials and accordingly we arrested the woman. She was today produced in court which sent her in judicial custody," Singh added.

On July 7, 2014, when Sarabjit's husband was heading to Greece and had reached the Delhi airport; she called her husband and informed him that their younger daughter Amanpreet had died. The woman had, however, could not reveal the reason behind the death. Exactly 26 days after Amanpreet's death, when her (Sarabjit's) daughter Navjit returned from her school, Sarabjit took her to the room and allegedly strangulated her. On September 26, 2014, when Maninder,  son of the accused's brother-in-law Surjit Singh (also an NRI), was sleeping in the room, she allegedly poisoned him to death. Pertinently, no postmortem of girls were conducted, it was only after family also lost third child, they suspected woman's role and got the postmortem conducted.
