Work begins on setting up tent cities

Ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, work has begun to set up three tent cities in an area of 350 acres at Sultanpur Lodhi.
Having picked up three sites, including the one on Didwindi-Sultanpur Lodhi, Goindwal and Lohian road, the state government has doled out a grant of Rs 50 crore for the project.
The idea is to accommodate 45,000 devotees who will get all provisions, including an attached toilet with each room, lockers and langar halls in the vicinity.
“Tin sheets are being used to make the structures so that it remains waterproof that lasts for three months,” said Congress MLA Navtej Cheema.
Cheema said: “I hope that the tent cities will come up by September end, around which the footfall was surely going to increase. The company, which had made a similar tent city in Patna ahead of Guru Gobind Singh Parkash Purab has been engaged in the work.”
District Administrative officials revealed that a portal for booking purpose would start soon.
They said Rs 5-10 per room per day would be charged as a token money from the occupants.
Meanwhile, a new bus stand with arches on the top to give a look sembling a holy city has also come up.
