Pawan Kumar, a security guard said the fire broke out after 12 o’clock at night. He immediately informed bank officials about the incident.

Fire tenders failed to douse the flames because the power supply was on and there were overhead wires.

Bank’s manager Bal Bharti and regional manager Navdeep Singh, said the empty ATM, ACs, computers and other belongings of the bank were gutted. They informed that since all work was online, the whole data is safe.

Harpreet Singh, who runs a Dhaba in the bank’s neighborhood, told that he had also reached the spot knowing about the fire. He had called the JE to disconnect the power supply but he did not pick up the phone. Then he himself went and cut off the bank’s power line.

Since high voltage overhead wires pass in front of the bank, the fire brigade was unable to do anything even after reaching there in time. Then he himself went to the electricity office and took the electricity personnel, deployed on duty, with him to disconnect the power supply.

Then, after breaking the window panes, the fire brigade doused the flames. He said had the power supply been disconnected in time the flames could have been controlled.
