Even as Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan Dera head Ashutosh had been declared “clinically dead” since the past five years, the Jalandhar rural police continue to provide Z-plus security to his body.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had in July 2017 allowed the dera to preserve his body after the preachers put in a request. Dera followers have been maintaining that he was in a ‘samadhi’ and would return.

The strange act of providing security to the body has perplexed all.

Police officials shared that as many as 60 police personnel had been deployed at the dera, even outnumbering the strength at the police station in Nurmahal.

Meanwhile, Jalandhar rural SSP Navjot Mahal justifies the security provided to the dera.

“We have not given security to the body of the dera head. The Z-plus security is for the dera. We have given Z-plus security to all deras of Jalandhar, including Dera Sachkhand at Ballan,” he said. — TNS
