Srinagar, November 21

Abdul Rasheed Turabi, former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, met the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey, Ali Shaheen, in Istanbul and discussed the situation in Kashmir, his party said in a statement on Tuesday.

Turabi’s meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey involved a discussion on the situation in Kashmir. He raised the issue of “human rights violations” by India and thanked the Turkish government for its support.

Turabi is one of the influential leaders in the PoK and had led its chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami during the years when militancy was raging in the Kashmir valley.

“The people of Kashmir expect that the Turkish government will support them in their struggle for rights,” Turabi added.

Turabi told the Turkish minister that Kashmiris were waging a “legal struggle” for their “rights, according to the United Nations resolutions”.

Turkey, which is taken an increasingly active role in conflicts around Muslim countries, had recently hosted an international conference in which Muslim delegates from around the world, including Kashmir, took part. — TNS
