19 district officers get powers of Executive Magistrate

Besides 42 Executive Magistrates already functioning in Rajouri district, the state government on the recommendation of Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhry, District Magistrate (also DDC and DC), has empowered another 19 officers of the district with magisterial powers to maintain law and order in the district.

On June 5, the District Magistrate had submitted the proposal to the state government and vide SRO 245 the state government appointed these officers as Executive Magistrates. As per the notification issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the officers appointed as Class-I Executive Magistrates as per provision of the Section 12 of CrPC shall act under the superintendence, direction and control of the District Magistrate.

These officers include Avtar Singh Chib, Additional DDC; Rafiq Khan, SE, PHE; Nazir Shaikh, General Manager, DIC; Abdul Hamid, Chief Planning Officer; Altaf Hussain, CEO; Mushtaq Ahmed, DFO; Dr Abdul Kabir, District SWO; Naveed Iqbal, Deputy Director, FPF; NH Khan, Executive Engineer, PHE; Zubair Ahmed, Executive Engineer, PMGSY, Budhal; Shabir Ahmed, Umesha Parihar and SA Wani, all Executive Engineer, CS&CA, and Dr Mehmood Bajar, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital.

“All these officers have been empowered to execute their powers in the entire district and may be assigned specific areas by the District Magistrate” said a senior officer.

These officers (as a sectoral Executive Magistrates) shall maintain law and order and coordinate with the police, essential services departments and general public and shall keep informing the District Magistrate about the developments in their respective areas (whenever assigned the duties of the Executive Magistrate). “This step will enable enhanced police-magistracy coordination in the district for keeping a vigil on the elements responsible for disturbing the law and order or security of the state and provide for prompt action,” said Shahid Iqbal Choudhry, Deputy Commissioner.
